It’s a double whammy for Mother India. First, the misdiagnoses five diseases aka 5Cs – corruption, casteism, communalism, cronyism and criminalism – as the reason for Indian democracy being on the ventilator.
Then his alter ego Mr Hyde starts playing politics by targeting vote-bank politics, a euphemism for minority baiting, as the root cause.
The jhola doctor is half right. Indian democracy is being slow poisoned by five Cs. First is Chicanery. Achhe din aanewale hai, Gujarat model of Vikas, Rs 15 lakh in every Indian’s account are just some of the jumlas used by the Deceiver-in-chief to gain control of the temple of democracy. The jumla factory keeps churning out new ones for every occasion. The slogan has expanded from Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas to Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas. But the only people experiencing Saath, Vikas and Vishwas are Hum Do Hamare Do.
The second C is the Chaiwala complex, which centres around creating a fiction to paint a larger than life picture of an otherwise pedestrian achiever. Like Goebbels the trick is to keep repeating the lie with a straight face.
In reply to an RTI, the Western Railways has denied the existence of the tea stall where the Pradhan claims to have worked in his younger days. But he shamelessly continues to repeat the claim ad nauseam, safe in the knowledge that few would be aware of the RTI exposing his fibbing. The fakir scripts another fiction of leaving the family to serve the nation.
But conveniently hides the fact that dumping one’s family is the price RSS demands for turning a fictional Chaiwala into its Pradhan pracharak with a master’s degree in Entire Political Science. The third C afflicting India is the Charlatan.
He sheds crocodile tears for his “sisters” who are either victims of or live in in constant fear of triple talaq.
But in the very next breath he won’t hesitate to harshly punish their fathers, brothers, husbands and sons for, at times no faults of theirs.
To his core followers he will promise the moon but fail to provide even means for earning a livelihood. He will tell them that when they are hospitalised, they will get Rs 5 lakh insurance. What he doesn’t say is that he won’t provide them any assistance for staying healthy, educated and prosperous.
The common man must grin and bear it, pay his dues to the banks and taxes to the government. The loan write-offs and tax relief is only for the rich. The fourth C curse is the Chor Chowkidar. From Rafale to Scania, the promise of na khaunga na khane dunga sounds like a cruel joke. The trick here is to stay in denial mode and unleash the might of government machinery to harass and paint the opponents as corrupt. The shirts of opposition leaders cannot be whiter than the emperor’s new clothes. In the slanging match the public is left guessing who is the bigger chor. The disparity was highlighted during the lockdown when Mukesh Ambani earned Rs 90 crore per hour compared to less than Rs 3,000/month earned by nearly a quarter of the Indian population, according to a report.
In fact, the Indian billionaires grew richer by 35% during the lockdown helped by a government which changed its policies to suit them. The fifth C is the coward 56”. He may keep boasting “ghar mein ghuskar marenge” but when the Chinese come he will whimper, “there was no intrusion, there were no intruders”. The nation will be told that India has won the Ladakh faceoff and not an inch of our territory has been lost.
But there is eloquent but deafening silence when China refuses to vacate the Gogra Hotsprings area. He will not contradict Donald Trump when the then US president claims Modi asked him to meditate in Kashmir. The Cheewala will meekly let Dolund bhai bully India into exporting HCQ medicine. He will host a Russian minister who will then go to Pakistan and sign an arms deal. The US will dare to send its navy in Indian waters but 56” has time only to bully political opponents. Didi-o-didi is easier to target than Jingping, Putin and Biden.
Covid has added a sixth C to India’s woes. There is a vaccine to fight this C but the 5Cs are cancerous and will continue to destroy India’s secular ethos.
